The President lifts the HIV travel ban

Today is a good day. A law was signed today that will end (after a 60 day waiting period) the HIV travel and immigration ban. This means people adopting HIV+ children will no longer have to get a special waiver in order for them to get a visa. While this waiver was not a very big deal in the long run, it did mean having to get letters from our doctor, insurance company, board of health, an extra 5 days in Ukraine and an extra $545 for the actual waiver fee. This is now one less thing to stop people from adopting these precious children!

  2. I am absolutely dumbstruck! Jaime, we've been praying over two children who we've learned about who are HIV+ and discussing the waiver situation. What a burden lifted this is! Praise God!

  3. WOW! AWESOME! INCREDIBLE! there are two little girls we met who are likely +, and I think often of bringing them home. and also I think that its just plain silly to add more hurdles to jump for HIV. as long as YOU know they are + and plan to care for them how is that different than a kid with any other medical issue?
